Don’t Miss the Film Festival: Top 5 movies to watch in February 2023
February 2023 will see the release of five highly anticipated films: “80 for Brady,” a sports comedy about four senior women traveling to Houston to watch Tom Brady play in the Super Bowl; “Knock at the Cabin,” a psychological horror film about a family who are held hostage in their remote cabin in the woods; “Sharper,” a black comedy neo-noir thriller set in New York City; “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” the sequel to the Marvel movies Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp; and “Cocaine Bear,” a black comedy thriller about a 500-pound bear that goes on a drug-fueled rampage after ingesting a bag full of cocaine. Apart from these films, February 2023 will also see the release of “Emily,” a biographical drama about English writer Emily Bronte, and “Jesus Revolution,” a film about the Jesus movement in California during the 1970s.
1) 80 for Brady
The upcoming sports comedy film “80 for Brady” features an ensemble cast of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field and stars Tom Brady, one of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks. The film follows the true story of four senior women who went to Houston to watch Tom play in Super Bowl LI in 2017. The film is directed by Kyle Marvin, written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern, and scheduled to be released on February 3, 2023. It also includes celebrity cameos, such as Guy Fieri and Rob Gronkowski.
2) Knock at the Cabin
As the tension builds and the stakes grow higher, the family is forced to confront their deepest fears and face the ultimate test of their survival instincts. With M. Night Shyamalan at the helm, “Knock at the Cabin” promises to be a chilling, suspenseful, and unforgettable ride through the end of the world.
3) “Sharper” – A Black Comedy Thriller
This upcoming film, directed by Benjamin Caron and written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, is a dark comedy set to release in select theaters on February 10, 2023, followed by a premiere on Apple TV+ on February 17, 2023. The film is a neo-noir thriller that follows the competition for riches and power among characters driven by ambition, greed, lust, and jealousy.
The story unfolds in New York City, from the penthouses of Fifth Avenue to the dark alleyways of Queens, as a con artist takes on the billionaires of Manhattan. The talented cast includes Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith, Briana Middleton, and John Lithgow.
4) Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The upcoming Marvel film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is directed by Peyton Reed and is the third installment in the Ant-Man series. Written by Jeff Loveness of Rick and Morty fame, it will be the first film of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, releasing on February 17, 2023.
In the sequel, the Ant-Man family finds themselves trapped in the Quantum Realm and must fight against the evil Kang the Conqueror. The film also introduces M.O.D.O.K., a former arms dealer turned super-intelligent mutant with a large head, who will be played by an undisclosed actor.
Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer will reprise their roles from the previous films, while Jonathan Majors will return as Kang. Kathryn Newton will play an older version of Cassie Lang, previously portrayed by Emma Fuhrmann. Bill Murray will also star in a villainous role in this highly anticipated sequel.
5) Cocaine Bear
The upcoming film “Cocaine Bear”
Directed by Elizabeth Banks and co-produced by her, this upcoming black comedy thriller film is based on the true story of the infamous “Cocaine Bear.” Written by Jimmy Warden, the film will be released on February 24, 2023.
The movie features a star-studded cast, including Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kristofer Hivju, Margo Martindale, and Ray Liotta. It follows a 500-pound American black bear that ingested a large quantity of cocaine that had fallen from an airplane, and goes on a wild, drug-fueled killing spree in a small Georgia town.
The film sees a diverse group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers joining forces to survive the attack of the crazed bear.
Alongside this film, February 2023 will also bring the US release of Emily, directed by Frances O’Connor and based on the life of English writer Emily Bronte (played by Emma Mackey), and Jesus Revolution, directed by Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle, which depicts the Jesus movement in California in the 1970s and is based on the book by American pastor Greg Laurie.
